There is a recall out for unwanted tailgate opening but that is for the 2500/3500 trucks and not the 1500, unless, the truck is a Canadian truck. (N232426400-01: Safety Recall - Tailgate May Open Unexpectedly - (Feb 23, 2024))
Those of us with the 1500 can now rest a little easier as there has been yet another update to the tailgate button. This issue can show up under numerous different ways like shown in the DemonWorks video down below. This video is over a year old but the process and the fix is the same, maybe a new part number as it's been revised several times.
The newest information for the fix comes by way of Document 23-NA-112: Inadvertent/Unwanted Tail Gate Opening - (Mar 28, 2024). This now includes an update to the BCM (Body Control Module) but is only available for the GMC Sierra Models. Unsure as to why the Silverado does not get the update, but the article will be updated in the future if the Silverado is added.
The Update: Essentially, the new update extends the time needed for the button to be pressed and held before the actuators release the tailgate. Time will tell if this is the final fix or if the 1500 will get added to the recall.
