Recall N252532020: Missing Owner’s Manual on Some 2026 Chevrolet Silverado Trucks

GM has issued noncompliance recall N252532020 for certain 2026 Chevrolet Silverado trucks built without the required printed owner’s manual.

This might sound minor, but because the manual includes critical safety information – especially about child seat anchorages and crash protection systems – it falls under FMVSS/CMVSS safety regulations, which is why it’s being handled as an official recall.

The recall is active as of November 2025.

Vehicles Affected

According to the recall, the involved vehicles include certain:

  • 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

  • 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD

  • 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD

Not every 2026 Silverado is affected. Involvement is VIN-specific, so you’ll need to check your truck.

What’s the Actual Problem?

GM has determined that some 2026 Silverado trucks:

  • Left the factory without an owner’s manual, and

  • Therefore do not meet certain owner’s manual content requirements under:

    • FMVSS No. 225 (child restraint anchorage systems),

    • Canadian CMVSS No. 210.2 (lower universal anchorage systems for restraint systems and booster seats), and

    • CMVSS No. 208 / TSD No. 208 (occupant crash protection information).

Bottom line:Without the printed manual, some owners may not have the proper guidance on child seat anchors, crash protection systems, and other safety features. That lack of information can increase the risk of injury in a crash if the vehicle is not used correctly.

The Fix: Dealer Installs the Correct Owner’s Manual

The “repair” is straightforward:

Dealers will provide and install the missing owner’s manual in the glove box.

GM has two separate manuals called out:

  • Light Duty Owner’s Manual – Part WPC894 (1500 trucks)

  • Heavy Duty Owner’s Manual – Part WPC893 (2500HD/3500HD trucks)

For owners, this just means:

  • Your dealer will order the correct manual using your VIN.

  • They will place it in the glove compartment and close out the recall.

  • The visit is quick (labor time is listed as 0.2 hr) and free.

Important Notes for US and Canadian Owners

United States

  • It is against Federal law for a dealer to sell or lease an involved vehicle until the recall is completed.

  • That applies to:

    • New and used inventory,

    • GM Certified Pre-Owned units,

    • Courtesy transportation vehicles,

    • Dealer shuttle vehicles, and CarBravo units.

  • If the recall isn’t completed within a reasonable time after you bring the truck in, federal law gives you specific rights (replacement or refund in certain cases), which is why GM is emphasizing prompt completion.

Canada

  • For inventory trucks, GM pre-shipped owner’s manuals to Canadian dealers starting November 20, 2025.

  • For customer-owned vehicles, Canadian dealers order manuals through the Warranty Call Centre using the recall number N252532020 and your VIN.

  • Manuals are supplied at no charge and only for VINs that are part of this recall.

How to Check If Your Truck Is Involved

To see whether your 2026 Silverado is part of recall N252532020, you can:

  1. Check your VIN in GM’s recall lookup

    • Use GM’s official recall website or NHTSA’s VIN recall lookup.

  2. Call your Chevrolet dealer’s service department

    • Ask them to check your VIN for open recalls, specifically N252532020 — Missing Owner’s Manual.

    • Dealers are instructed to use GM Global Warranty Management (Investigate Vehicle History – IVH) to verify if your truck is involved and whether the recall is still open.

If the recall is open on your VIN, schedule a visit to have the manual installed.

Cost to the Owner

There is no cost to the owner for:

  • The owner’s manual itself, or

  • The labor to “install” it (put it in the glove box and close out the recall).

This is a safety recall, and GM has instructed dealers to perform it at no charge, regardless of:

  • Mileage,

  • Vehicle age, or

  • Number of previous owners.

What Owners Should Do Next

If you own a 2026 Silverado 1500, 2500HD, or 3500HD:

  1. Check your VIN for recall N252532020.

  2. If involved, contact your Chevrolet dealer and schedule an appointment.

  3. When you arrive, verify that:

    • The correct printed owner’s manual is installed in your glove box, and

    • The recall is closed out in their system.

Even though this recall doesn’t involve a mechanical repair, it’s still important. The owner’s manual contains critical safety information about child seats, crash protection systems, and proper operation of the truck. Making sure it’s in the vehicle is part of making sure the truck is fully compliant and safely set up for you and your passengers.
