Edge Introduces CTS4 With 3.4 Times the Processing Power and a Larger Display
Edge Products has introduced its new CTS4 digital monitor, bringing upgraded processing hardware, a larger touchscreen and faster operation to its popular in-cab monitoring and tuning platform.
The fourth-generation CTS4 features a 5.5-inch capacitive touchscreen, a new 1.7 GHz dual-core processor and 2GB of RAM. According to Edge, the new hardware delivers 3.4 times the processing power of the previous CTS3 generation, with improvements to startup time, gauge response and overall operation.
The CTS4 is being introduced in four configurations: Insight, Insight+, Evolution and Juice with Attitude. Each uses the new display platform, with different monitoring and tuning capabilities depending on the vehicle application.
New Hardware and a Larger Display
The CTS4 represents a substantial hardware update over the CTS3. The display increases from 5 inches to 5.5 inches, providing 21% more viewing area.
Behind the screen, Edge has upgraded to a 1.7 GHz dual-core, 64-bit processor with 2GB of LPDDR4 RAM. The company reports a 300% increase in memory capacity and up to 325% faster memory speed compared with the previous generation.
Edge also claims the new hardware provides 70% faster cold startup times, 50% faster PID changes and a 50% reduction in setup time.
PID response is particularly relevant for drivers who use these monitors to watch engine and transmission operating conditions.
The device communicates with the vehicle's control modules to retrieve supported data, including temperatures, pressures and other operating information.
Faster processing can improve how quickly the display handles that information, although the actual data update rate also depends on the vehicle's communication systems.
The CTS4 uses a high-resolution capacitive touchscreen with a 60 FPS refresh rate.
Combined with the larger display, the updated hardware is intended to make gauge layouts easier to read and navigate.
Monitoring and Diagnostic Features
The CTS4 continues to offer customizable digital gauges, allowing drivers to select which supported vehicle parameters appear on the screen.
Other features include configurable alerts, data logging, diagnostic trouble code reading and clearing, peak-value recall, maintenance reminders and Wi-Fi software updates.
Edge has also added programmable quick-action buttons and LED indicator lights.
The platform supports Edge's Expandable Accessory System (EAS), allowing compatible external sensors and accessories to provide additional information beyond what is available through the vehicle's diagnostic port.
Edge also lists manual DPF regeneration, injector balance monitoring and OBD readiness functions among the CTS4 platform's capabilities.
These functions are application-dependent and should not be interpreted as confirmation that every supported vehicle can use them.
Four CTS4 Configurations
The Insight CTS4 is the monitoring-focused version. It connects to the vehicle's OBD-II diagnostic port and displays supported vehicle information without modifying the engine calibration.
The Insight+ CTS4 adds custom tuning capability for supported applications, while the Evolution CTS4 includes Edge's preloaded performance tuning for compatible vehicles.
The Juice with Attitude CTS4 combines the updated display with Edge's inline performance module system.
One change with the CTS4 platform is the ability to upgrade certain devices through an internet update.
Edge says the standard Insight CTS4 can be upgraded to Evolution or Insight+ functionality on supported applications without purchasing another display.
For owners who primarily want to monitor their vehicles, the standard Insight remains the most straightforward option.
CTS4 and the Duramax
For Duramax owners, an aftermarket monitor provides a dedicated display for engine and transmission operating information that would otherwise require navigating factory menus or using a separate scan tool.
On the 3.0L Duramax, commonly monitored information includes engine coolant temperature, transmission fluid temperature, boost pressure and other supported operating parameters. Having that information visible can be particularly useful when towing or monitoring vehicle operation under load.
The CTS4's upgraded hardware does not necessarily mean additional vehicle data will become available. Supported parameters and diagnostic functions still depend on the vehicle application and Edge's software support.
Owners of LM2, LZ0 and L5P Duramax-powered vehicles should verify compatibility for their specific model year before purchasing, particularly when looking for specialized diagnostic functions or tuning support.
Pricing and Availability
Edge lists the Insight CTS4 at $599.95 under part number 84130-4. The company is currently accepting preorders, with shipments dependent on inventory availability.
Additional CTS4 configurations are available with pricing and application support varying by product.
The new hardware brings significant changes to Edge's in-cab monitoring platform, particularly in processing power, memory and display performance.
Edge's advertised improvements have not yet been independently evaluated here, but the specifications indicate a substantial update over the previous generation.
The new Edge CTS4 lineup will also be available through DemonWorkshop.com, with product listings and availability information to follow.
Additional specifications and vehicle compatibility information can be found on Edge Products' official CTS4 page.
