ANOTHER Transmission / Wheel Lock Up Recall on Silverado and Sierra Trucks ?!?!

General Motors has issued Safety Recall N252516560 – Momentary Rear Wheel Lock-Up, but this is not a brand-new transmission defect.

Instead, this recall revisits a prior campaign to ensure the correct software calibration was actually installed.

Here’s what’s going on.

This Recall Ties Back to an Earlier Campaign

According to the bulletin, this recall applies to certain:

  • 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

  • 2020–2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

  • 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500/3500

  • 2020–2022 GMC Sierra 1500

  • 2020 GMC Sierra 2500/3500 N252516560 Bulletin

These trucks were previously included in Recall N242454440.

The original issue involved a transmission control valve that could experience excessive wear over time, potentially leading to:

  • Gradual hydraulic pressure loss

  • Harsh shifting

  • In rare cases, momentary rear wheel lock-up N252516560 Bulletin

Rear wheel lock-up increases crash risk, which is why the campaign was classified as a safety recall.

So What Changed?

The new recall states these vehicles:

“were subject to GM Recall N242454440 and may not have received a correct repair under the recall.” N252516560 Bulletin

That wording is key.

This is not introducing a new mechanical failure. This is not replacing parts. This is not a redesign.

This recall exists to verify and, if necessary, correct the software calibration installed during the original repair.

What Dealers Will Do

The procedure is simple:

  • Verify the calibration level in the Transmission Control Module

  • Reprogram the TCM if the correct calibration is not installed

  • On L5P-equipped HD trucks, reprogram the ECM as well N252516560 Bulletin

No parts are required N252516560 Bulletin

If DTC P0747 sets after programming, technicians are directed to reference Special Coverage N242454441 N252516560 Bulletin

How Many Trucks Are Affected?

This recall affects 983 vehicles.

That’s a very small subset of the original recall population, which strongly indicates this is a targeted follow-up campaign for specific VINs that require calibration verification.

What This Means for Owners

If your Silverado or Sierra shows Recall N252516560 as open:

  • Your truck may need a calibration check

  • It may require a software update

  • No mechanical repairs are expected

The repair is performed at no cost and is strictly software-based.

The Bottom Line

GM did not discover a new transmission defect.

Instead, this recall ensures that trucks repaired under the earlier campaign received the correct final software calibration.

Small population Software only. Verification and update.

If your VIN is included, it’s worth having it completed promptly — not because something new failed, but because GM is tightening up the original fix.
